Your Investment

Investing in Yourself

Engaging in psychotherapy demands a lot from both of us. It is a financial, a time, and most of all, a commitment to work together.

Entering therapy is making an investment in your self. By dedicating yourself to the process, you will probably feel better and improve your ability to deal with the specific issues that brought you to therapy. You will also likely gain skills and resilience that you can draw upon when facing other challenges in your life now and in the future.

Financial Matters

My fees are within the range of $150 for a 50-minute psychotherapy session and $175 for an hour long couples session. Based on your insurance plan these fees may be reimbursable anywhere from 50% to 80%. In the event there is a deductible for out-of-network benefits, you are responsible for the full amount of the deductible. If you have difficulty paying for therapy under the conditions outlined, then I would be happy to discuss alternative plans.

I am a provider for United Healthcare, ValueOptions, Keystone and Oxford. If you are not covered by one of these plans I can provide you with a statement for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Although many patients have, and use, their mental health insurance benefits, others prefer to pay privately “out-of-pocket.” There are various reasons to consider this including your confidentiality and benefit coverage.

Confidentiality

You should know that insurance companies require detailed information about their members’ treatment, and often direct treatment (i.e. type of therapy, length of therapy, etc.) This also includes providing a psychiatric diagnosis and other sensitive information that becomes part of your mental health record.

These records may impact your ability to obtain other medical insurance in the future, as your new carrier can consider you as having a pre-existing condition. As a private pay client, your assured that treatment records are shared only with your prior written consent.

Benefit Coverage

Most insurance plans only cover a limited number of sessions per year. Thus, any sessions scheduled beyond the annual maximum become an out-of-pocket expense. Prior to the start of treatment, you should check with your insurance carrier to see if you have an annual session maximum before deciding to use your insurance.
